Cardi B's Government Shutdown Rant is Now a Killer Song: Listen
Cardi B already gave voice to many frustrated Americans with her rant about how unfair it is that Pres. Trump ordered thousands of federal employees to get back to work during the partial government shutdown without pay. So, of course meme factory The Gregory Brothers remixed her minute of fury in "Bodak Shutdown" style and made it into your new favorite political jam, "Yeah Bitch/ Nah Bitch."
The original rant, released on Wednesday (Jan. 16), found Cardi opening up about her feelings on the shutdown, which has kept more than 800,000 government employees out of work as the shutdown has dragged on for nearly a month. "I don’t want to hear y’all motherf---ers talking about ‘Oh, but Obama shut down the government for 17 days.’ Yeah, b---, for healthcare so your grandma could check her blood pressure and you b----es can go check your p---- at the gynecologist with no motherf---ing problem," she said in the original. "Now, I know a lot of y’all don’t care because y’all don’t work for the government or y’all probably have a job. This s--- is really f---ing serious, bro, this s--- is crazy."
At press time, the original video has nearly 12.5 million views.
How hard has Cardi's perspective hit? It has some Senators debating whether to retweet it given the explicit language, with Sen. Brian Schatz of Hawaii tweeting, "(Trying to decide whether or not to retweet the Cardi B video)," to which Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy replied, "Omg, I had the same argument with myself 30 minutes ago!"
