To mark his debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Taylor Bennett performed his new single, “Streaming Services,” on Monday night (Jan. 7). The minimalist setup featured the MC backed by his band and two backup singers, which allowed for the mellow R&B song’s lyrics to take center stage.

Taking his jacket off toward the end of the performance, a shirtless Bennett sang the chorus, “Does it really make you feel like a rock star/ When every single streaming record hits the top charts?”

The Chicago native released the song last week on SoundCloud, and explained that it came out of a desire to “educate the world” of the struggles that indie artists face. “I created 'Streaming Services' to educate the world on independent artist struggles to navigate through an industry built on their own creativity. Years later still having little to no understanding of how to distribute and collect funds from our own product,” he wrote.
