Last month (Sept. 19), Billboard broke the news that Lil Wayne would be honored at the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards with their "I am hip-hop award." The annual award show finally aired on Tuesday night (Oct. 16), as Weezy took the stage with his mother Jacida Carter and eldest daughter Reginae Carter behind him to share in the special moment.
Prior to the 504 native delivering a heartfelt speech, a pre-recorded video was played, featuring the likes of T.I., Missy Elliott, DJ Khaled, Ciara, 2 Chainz, Kendrick Lamar, and other artists showering Wayne with well-deserved praise. The Young Money Entertainment CEO went on to thank his fans, family, and friends for their genuine support throughout his acclaimed career.
Things got serious when Wayne shared the story of "Uncle Bob" [Robert Hoobler] going to extreme lengths to save his life following a failed suicide attempt at 12-years-old. "There's a man in New Orleans, his name is Uncle Bob. He came into an apartment one day. He bust in the door, guns drawn, he saw nobody. He saw legs on the floor. It was my legs. He saw blood everywhere. Bunch of police hopped over me. He refused to do so. I never knew, I talked to him the other day, I never knew EMS was on the scene," Weezy said.
