Maxwell announced a new album titled Night and dropped the smooth serenade “Shame” on Friday (Oct. 5).

The suave jam, which Maxwell describes as a modern love song, will appear on the third album in his R&B trilogy. The new album is due in 2019, and is preceded by blackSUMMERS’night (2016) and BLACKsummers’night (2009).

The 45-year-old Grammy Award-winning artist first announced the single Tuesday (Oct. 2) on social media. The clip shows letters from the song’s album cover floating around the frame. “SHAME • single vamp • from the forthcoming conclusion to the #BLACKSUMMERSNIGHT trilogy #NIGHTiscoming,” the singer wrote on Instagram. He followed it up with five similar videos in the days surrounding its release.
