Global Citizen Ambassador French Montana Voices Support For Cash Bail Reform in New York: Exclusive
Throughout the United States, there are over 500,000 people who cannot bail themselves out of jail due to financial restrictions in not being able to afford their freedom. Global Citizen ambassador French Montana and the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation decided to take action in freeing 500 women and children under those circumstances from NYC's Rikers Island jail earlier in September.
"As a proud Global Citizen ambassador, I see how important this bailout mission is that calls for reform. I am excited to support this campaign that has the potential to affect millions of people nationwide including my Bronx community," Montana tells Billboard. "In addition to using my platform to call for change, this issue is personal for me as my best friend Max B is serving 75 years in prison and my heart goes out to people suffering from unfair incarceration."
French plans on visiting the inmates of Rikers Island and will continue to help fight for the freedom of the innocently accused. "I plan to visit Rikers Island to provide support for Bronx residents currently incarcerated and will welcome recently released members of my community as they connect with their families and re-enter society," he explains.
