Lil Wayne Announces 'Tha Carter V' Album Release Date

After Lil Wayne's Tha Carter V failed to surface online last week, fans were left feeling spurned, though rumors suggested the project's release was imminent. On Tuesday (Sept. 25), Wayne shifted everyone's mood when he posted on Twitter that he had an announcement to make at 5 p.m. ET, and when the time came, he announced that he would release his elusive album on Friday -- right at the tail end of his Sept. 27 birthday.

In a three-minute clip, Wayne detailed his path to CV and thanked fans for their patience.

"I heard there was a misunderstanding about the release date of Tha CV. I heard y'all got a little mixed up and y'all thought it was going to be released like last week or something. Well, I would like for you to know that since y'all stuck with me and hung in there anyway for like the past four, five years, through all of this -- y'all got me feeling like Tiger Woods with this comeback -- but on my birthday, I actually have something special: I will be releasing Tha Carter V," he said.

Toward the end of the video, Wayne posted the cover art for CV, which sticks to the series' childhood theme, and portrays a younger version of Weezy standing alongside his mother. "Honestly, my fans, my supporters, the world, you know, of course, it's God and my family first, and I am nothing, absolutely nothing," says Tunechi.

To keep fans on their toes, Wayne has installed a countdown on his website for Tha Carter V, which will continue to run until the album's release date.
