Mac Miller Fans Gather in Pittsburgh For Emotional Public Vigil

Mac Miller’s hometown honored the late rapper with a touching public vigil on Tuesday night (Sept. 11). Fans flooded to Frick Blue Slide Park in Pittsburgh, which inspired the title of Miller’s 2011 debut album, Blue Slide Park.

The four-hour memorial allowed attendees to decorate the park’s characteristic blue slides with art, flowers, candles and Pittsburgh Steelers-themed colors as a nod to the late rapper’s choice NFL team. The slide also received a fresh coat of blue paint earlier in the day.

Blue Slide Park gave the hip-hop world some of Miller’s most beloved hits, including “Party on Fifth Ave.,” and one of his most popular songs, his neighborhood-inspired “Frick Park Market.” The record debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart (dated Nov. 26, 2011).

Miller passed away on Sept. 7 of a reported overdose and was pronounced dead at his Studio City, California home. He was 26 years old. See footage from the vigil via Pittsburgh’s local CBS news station below.
