Chance the Rapper, J. Cole & More Mourn Mac Miller: 'We Lost an Inspiration'

Another shocking death hit the music world Friday afternoon (Sept. 7), as Mac Miller passed away at the young age of 26. Billboard has confirmed the news, with TMZ reporting that the rapper died from an apparent overdose.

The tragic news immediately resulted in a hoard of social media tributes to the rapper, including fellow members of the hip-hop community Chance the Rapper, J. Cole, Juicy J and Jaden Smith. But the heartbreak extended beyond hip-hop, as other artists like Shawn Mendes, Kehlani and The 1975 shared messages, with stars who had never met Miller chiming in, like Late Late Show host James Corden: "[I] was a fan of his spirit."

"He was one of the sweetest guys I ever knew ... I loved him for real," Chance tweeted. Noah Cyrus added, "we lost an inspiration to fans and many musicians. youre a musical icon forever."

Today is a bad dream. Thank you Mac. For being a visionary. A smiling, laughing, kindhearted individual. Thank you for being the soundtrack to my high school years. For giving me songs I knew every single word to and screamed at the top of my lungs in my first car the year I got my license. Thank you for giving me punchlines and inside jokes with my best friends. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being such a good friend to Gerald. For making millions of people happy even when you were suffering. Check on your friends. Please. Call them. Tell them you love them. Be a resource that comes with no judgment. Let your friends unfold without feeling like they are burdening you. Rest easy, Mac. We love you so so so very much.
