The cavernous halls of New York City’s Terminal 5 hosted a full blown rager Sunday night (Aug. 12) as Playboi Carti and his special guest Sheck Wes took over the Big Apple for a raucous stop on their Die Lit Tour. To promote his debut album Die Lit, Carti has embarked on a 19-date trek across the country and the sold-out New York gig drew droves of fans to Midtown Manhattan, with a line that circled 56th street in the lead up to the show.

Sheck Wes opened the night with an exhilarating set that left the hometown crowd buzzing with excitement. Fans raved at the sounds of “CHIPPI CHIPPI” and “PAPER” blasting through the speakers as they wasted no time forming several mosh pits. Security guards had to assist several concertgoers out of the swarm as the wild vibe of the fans was too much to handle for some attendees. The crowd unraveled upon hearing “Mo Bamba” and “Live SheckWes Die SheckWes” as the Harlem-bred MC blazed through the two records with exuberance. “Mo Bamba” received an encore treatment delighting fans as they erupted once more.

After an intermission that led to the crowd chanting Carti’s name, the lights dimmed with a voice booming out over the speakers saying, “Open up those mosh pits! If you’re scared go to the fucking back!” The crowd followed suit as the Atlanta spitter finally appeared stage to perform “R.I.P. Fredo [Notice Me],” off his debut album, with more mosh pits popping up as he hit several other tracks from the debut, “FlatBed Freestyle,” “R.I.P." and "Mileage."

Despite revealing his battle with asthma on Twitter, Carti showed his mettle as he moved through each record with ease despite nearly slipping on some water that was thrown around in the audience. Keeping his finger on the pulse of the crowd, Carti brought out A$AP Rocky to give a fiery performance of “A$AP Forever.” “Carti, I fucking love you n---a. This your shit! Look at what you did n---a,” Flacko said before ending his surprise appearance with “Praise the Lord (Da Shine).”

Following Flacko’s statement, Carti knew it was his moment as he added on to the frenzy by performing records off his debut self-titled mixtape, as well as his collaborations with Lil Uzi Vert. “Half & Half,” “Let It Go,” “wokeuplikethis,” and “Of Course We Ghetto Flowers” rang through Terminal 5 as the crowd showed their relentless energy jumping and rapping along to Carti’s lyrics.

Carti continued the fiery set by bringing out out rapper/producer Pi’erre Bourne for an ardent performance of “Magnolia.” Ending the show on a reflective note, Carti performed “Long Time” and instructed his DJ to play “Look at Me!” in tribute of the late XXXTENTACION after making his exit from the stage. As the herd of sweaty fans began to make their way out of Terminal 5, the weary yet satisfied looks on their faces proved Carti gave New York a night to remember.
