Lil Wayne Teases Upcoming Release of 'Tha Carter V'
Following a longstanding dispute against Birdman, Lil Wayne and his team reached a legal settlement last month (June 7) to finally free him from under Cash Money Records. At the center of the conflict has been Weezy's Tha Carter V, which had been held captive since Wayne finished recording the album in 2014.
During a recent club appearance in Miami (June 24), the New Orleans native provided an update about the project's impending release.
"Just to let y’all know I had a meeting today, it wasn’t a long meeting. Just so y’all know the meeting was about the release date of Tha Carter-fucking-V," he confidently relayed to the Story nightclub crowd. The album is expected to be released through Universal Records and could possibly see the light of day before 2018's end.
Lil Wayne's lawyer, Ron Sweeney, released a statement exclusively to Billboard confirming that the lawsuit was amicably resolved and Weezy is "happy" with the outcome.
"Per our settlement agreement, the matter has been amicably resolved to the satisfaction of all parties. In terms of the particulars, we’re prohibited legally from saying anything further. I can say that my client is happy," Sweeney said. "He is his own man, a man that owns his assets, his music and himself. At some point, Wayne will let his fans know what’s going to happen next."
