En Vogue Reflect on Crafting 'Whatta Man' With Salt-N-Pepa at the Billboard Music Awards: Watch

Last night (May 20), Salt-N-Pepa closed out the 2018 Billboard Music Awards with an emphatic performance, which highlighted the 30th anniversary of "Push It" cracking the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100. During their set, they called on En Vogue to assist them with their '90s single "Whatta Man." Prior to their performance, the renowned R&B group spoke to Billboard about how they teamed up with Salt-N-Pepa for the record.

Initially, Salt-N-Pepa were reluctant to reach out to En Vogue for their collaboration because the group thought they lacked the popularity to nab such a feature. On the contrary, En Vogue debunked that claim and explained what made them decide to join forces on "Whatta Man." "We were like little kids when they called us to be apart of the project. We were like, 'What? Wait a minute. Are you serious? Salt-N-Pepa called us? Uh, yeah. We can't wait! We'd be honored," they said.

The esteemed R&B group also spoke on the 28th anniversary of "Hold On" going No. 1 on the Billboard R&B charts, which marked their first top-charting single. "It was very surreal. It was like a dream. You know, everything took off so fast for us with that very first album Born to Sing. "We were playing catch-up that first year," they explained. "So like, it was happening very fast that we almost couldn't savor it. We're so happy to be back so many years later."
