Khalid Reveals His Proudest Moment of 2018, Talks Friendship With Shawn Mendes at BBMAs: Watch

On Sunday night (May 20), Khalid cemented his place in music with two strong performances at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, including his steamy collaboration with Normani for "Love Lies." Before securing a trophy for top new artist, the "Location" crooner spoke with Billboard on the red carpet about his proudest moment of this year, as well as his friendship with Shawn Mendes.

After notching five nominations this past February for the 2018 Grammy Awards, Khalid explained why attending this year's festivities was such a big deal for him. "The proudest moment for me was going to the Grammys," explained the neophyte. "I remember years ago I put it into existence. I tweeted: 'One day I wanna be at the Grammys,' and it came true. That was really just a moment for me where anything that I want to do and anything I want to achieve can be possible and it can happen."

The singer also dived into his bond with Shawn Mendes, who he shared the stage with for a stirring performance of "Youth" on Sunday night.  "He really cares about everyone surrounding him. He also cares about his music a lot," noted Khalid. "When you see him on the stage, it's genuine. It's not fake, it's really him. He's really that nice of a guy."
