The Weeknd Drops 'My Dear Melancholy' EP: Stream It Now
Between dishing out guest features and inking deals in the fashion and comic book world, The Weeknd hasn't released a new project since dropping off Starboy at the end of 2016, and fans have been pining for new material ever since. After taunting fans with a slew of cryptic teasers, The Weeknd's highly anticipated surprise project My Dear Melancholy is finally here -- just in time for his Coachella headlining set in April.
My Dear Melancholy clocks in at six songs and only boasts one guest: French DJ Gesaffelstein, who is featured on "I Was Never There" and "Hurt You." The Frank Dukes-executive produced effort features production from Daheala, Marz, Mike WiLL Made-It, Skrillex and more. The six-track EP is chock full of brooding ballads and finds Abel grappling with past breakups, notably on album opener "Call Out My Name" and outro "Privilege."
To coincide with the release of My Dear Melancholy, The Weeknd designed a custom t-shirt available now on his official site.
The Weeknd hinted at new music on Instagram after posting a series of videos of him listening to music in a studio with the caption "mastering." He followed up with a screenshot of a text message conversation in which he asked someone "should we drop Friday? I'm indifferent to be honest," before officially confirming the news on the eve of the project's release.
