On the heels of launching his 47 Minutes podcast with Tidal, Joey Bada$$ gave fans more food for thought on his Instagram story Wednesday night (March 7). The Brooklyn native informed followers he had been marijuana-free for over two months, and went on to further explain his decision to put down the weed in more detail.

"2 months, 7 days no weed smoke," he initially posted to Instagram (March 7). After receiving a multitude of questions about the new lifestyle he addressed the matter hours later (March 8) following up on his Instagram story. "Truth is I never seen myself smoking past 21. I been smoking everyday since 16, I am now 23, so I just took the new year as an opportunity to stop," said Joey.

"I feel like smoking is for older people who have worked a long time and are looking to relax. Not for young people who have a lot more to accomplish and can't afford anything slowing them down from getting to their destination," he wrote. "I get it though a lot of you think you need it to cope with the stress trust me I been there, But, meditation is much better."

The "Devastated" artist concluded his stream of consciousness warning people to be careful with how weed has changed in recent history. "Why you think weed is becoming legal everywhere? Not just because it's lucrative, but it's now being used as a control tactic," the 23-year-old claimed. "Look it up and 'STAY WOKE.'"
