Mr Hudson featuring Vic Mensa, "Coldplay"

After debuting "Coldplay" on Beats 1 in December, Mr. Hudson returns with the jazzy tune's harrowing video featuring Vic Mensa (Feb. 1). The G.O.O.D. Music artist's relationship with the Chi-town native dates back to 2013. Though, "Coldplay" only marks the second official collaboration between the talented creatives, Mensa returns the favor for Hudson's appearance after pairing up on his 2017 effort, The Manuscript EP.

For "Coldplay," the 38-year-old handles the production on the piano-laden track. Hudson explained the inspiration behind the song exclusively to Billboard, "For me, 'Coldplay' is about that moment when you’re about to give up on someone, but you don’t," he says."You dig deep. You keep working. Even though it might be easier to walk away."

“Vic’s verse is powerful. It’s more than a feature. He wears his heart on his sleeve. We’ve been friends for four years and we only just worked together," he continues. "You can hear in our collaborations that we really wanted to add a lot to the records. Not all features are like that. Sonically, I love the jazz quartet on a space-station aesthetic. Sad-robot music. That’s my happy place."

The somber video directed and produced by Mia Swier opens with Mr. Hudson in deep thought, while playing the piano. The scene shifts to a vacant bar, where the "Young Forever" collaborator serves up drinks to an emotional Vic Mensa, as he sips away in an attempt to numb his pain. The visual comes to a conclusion with the disheartened 24-year-old leaving the bar, while the clip pans to a woman donning a floral dress staring in the viewers' soul without uttering a word. In addition to receiving help from Swier, Hudson also received help from Chapin Hall, who served as director of photography.

Tickets are still available for Mr. Hudson's upcoming Los Angeles show at The Echo (Feb. 9). The performance will be supported by Bad Feelings and Torii Wolf. Purchase "Coldplay" on iTunes.
