Kevin Gates Will Be Released From Prison Next Week: Report
After serving nine months in an Illinois prison for a felony weapon charge, Kevin Gates will be a free man come next Wednesday (Jan. 10), according to TMZ. Earlier in 2017, the Baton Rouge native was arrested on the same day he was released, after a 180-day sentence from a Florida jail for a 2015 battery charge, and subsequently hit with an additional 30-month sentence for the outstanding weapons-related warrant.
Lindsey Hess of the Illinois Department of Correction told TMZ that the "2 Phones" artist will be released from the Cook County prison on parole with certain guidelines. Gates will allegedly be under mandatory supervision and cannot be found in possession of any firearms while on the outside.
The 31-year-old hasn't stopped releasing content since being locked up for his latest run-in with the law. Gates penned a heartfelt letter to those that support him, with the accompanying gruesome "What If" visual. Last September, the embattled MC's team managed to release his By Any Means 2 follow-up mixtape to hold fans over the rest of 2017.
Billboard has reached out to Atlantic Records for comment.
