Rapper XXXTentacion’s felony charges have nearly doubled from a 2016 domestic violence case due to alleged witness tampering, TMZ reports.

Just two months ago, Billboard reported XXXTentacion signed a multi-million-dollar record deal; prior to that, his album 17 debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. But his success continued under a cloud of issues stemming from a 2016 arrest for domestic violence against his then pregnant girlfriend. He was charged with aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation, and false imprisonment.

After a hearing last Friday (Dec. 15) in Miami-Dade County, the rapper and his attorneys submitted a document allegedly signed by the woman stating that she no longer wants him to be charged. Prosecutors alleged he coerced her into not testifying against him. Law enforcement sources say XXX made several recorded calls while behind bars. Allegedly, the information discussed on the calls led to these new charges. TMZ reports he was charged with eight new felony charges related to witness tampering and sent to jail without bail.

Billboard reached out to XXXTentacion's management but received no comment.
