Common's extensive resume includes his work as a celebrated rapper, actor and activist -- and soon, the multi-hyphenate will extend his reach to a whole new territory: comic books.

The rapper has teamed up to produce a new digital comic book series titled Caster, with LINE Webtoon, a digital comic book platform. Caster centers on a rare antiques dealer who heads down a destructive path and ultimately finds himself caught up in international espionage. Common will not only serve as the titular subject, but will also provide an exclusive soundtrack for the series.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly about Caster, Common revealed a few tidbits about his character's background. "The dude is fashion-forward and cool, but he’s in a world of antiques," Common told EW. "Then the depth of him is, his father was a hustler/gambler. He has that same knack, but he’s really about art and humanity."

As for the musical aspect of the comic series, Common already has a few high-profile names he'd like to collaborate with. "What we’re doing is creating music to speak to every issue. So the form of that issue will lead me, so it’ll be like I want to work with Pharrell for this issue, or Robert Glasper for the next one, or SZA," he offered. His aim is to craft a soundtrack that "fits the theme of the story so well" and revealed his plans to bring his soundtrack to pop-up events and ComicCon.

The series will be developed by Noble Transmission's Austin Harrison, Zach Howard, and Mike Raicht (who will also write the script) with art by Jason Masters.

"That’s what I love, bringing different aspects of what I do as an artist and integrate those worlds. I’ve been more and more into the multi-media aspects of it," the rapper said. "Who knows, there might be a Caster play at some point, or we might do it with a symphony one day."

Caster will be released in 2018.
