While 2017 was chock-full of releases from hip-hop's upper echelon, it was also the year hip-hop and R&B upstarts dominated the charts. On Tuesday (Nov. 14), Forbes returned to recognize 30 of music's most promising stars with the release of their annual 30 Under 30 list.

The list shines a spotlight on the young power players dominating in their respective fields. For the music category, 30 Under 30 alums Skylar Grey (singer/songwriter) and Kevin Olusola (member of pop group Pentatonix), as well as music vet Bob Moczydlowsky, selected the artists on the list.

Breakout artists Cardi B (25), Playboi Carti (22), H.E.R (20), SZA (28) and Khalid (19) land on the list, among others. And deservedly so. Cardi notched her first-ever Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 and earned a platinum plaque with "Bodak Yellow." SZA's debut album CTRL spawned two platinum singles and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

Forbes also recognized the producers and engineers responsible for crafting some of the year's biggest hits like Wondagurl (21), who had a hand in Big Sean's album I Decided as well as Lil Yachty's Teenage Emotions, and Kesha Lee (29), who's behind Migos' "Bad & Boujee."

Other artists featured on the list include Travis Scott (26), Young Thug (26), Lil Uzi Vert (23), Migos and Young M.A (25).
