The career of embattled rapper XXXTentacion continues to take more unexpected turns after he announced on Friday (Oct. 27) that he was through with making music.

In an Instagram story, X appeared dejected by his ups and down in the music industry and said that due to the "hate," he's announcing his retirement. "Sad to announce I will not be making or releasing any music," he wrote. "I am tired of being mentally abused for trying to help people, I am tired of the hate, I'm done."

X's decision comes on the heels of his whopping $6 million deal with Capitol Records/Caroline that he inked earlier his week. After describing the employees at Capitol Records as "wonderful people," X announced that he'd be axing his deal with the label.

Despite attaining success with his 17 album, landing No. 2 on the Billboard 200 opening week and receiving praise from several music juggernauts, including Kendrick Lamar and Erykah Badu, X's ascension has been marred by controversy, as well. In December, he'll go to trial for a domestic abuse case after allegedly attacking a pregnant woman. Last week, he was embroiled in a heated scuffle with a fan at the Rolling Loud Festival.
