5 Things to Know About Gucci Mane's New Wife Keyshia Ka'oir
From her beginnings as a video vixen to becoming a beauty mogul and more.
On Tuesday (Oct. 17), Keyshia Ka'oir officially became Keyshia Davis, wife of Gucci Mane, after the couple aired their extravagant wedding on BET for all of the world to witness. But before she became Gucci's ride-or-die, Keyshia was a Miami video vixen, who used her massive social media following to build an empire.
As Keyshia and Gucci's romance blossomed -- and as Gucci was caught up in legal drama -- Keyshia remained loyal to the Atlanta star during his prison stint and probation periods. Upon his release from prison last year, the beauty mogul made sure Gucci's transition was as smooth as possible. "He couldn’t leave the house for six months,” she told New York Post. "I would cook for him every day -- healthy stuff. Sunday was our cheat day: oxtails, jerk chicken, curry chicken and rice and peas and coconut water."
Her unwavering support earned her a whopping 25-carat diamond engagement ring, which Gucci gifted her at an Atlanta Hawks game back last November. Now, the newly married couple will give viewers a glimpse into their relationship in a reality series called The Mane Event, airing each Tuesday on BET.
From launching a beauty empire to helping Gucci transform his lifestyle, here are five things you should know about Keyshia Ka'oir.
Keyshia Met Gucci on the "911 Emergency" Video Set
While Gucci Mane was in prison, he came across XXL's "Eye Candy of the Year" issue, in which Keyshia was featured. Gucci's manager, Amina Diop, tracked down the then-video vixen and booked her for an upcoming video shoot Gucci had planned following his prison release.
"A day or two later, I got a call. Amina was like, 'I work with Gucci, he wants you to —' and I’m like, 'Whatever.' Because I don’t even want to be around rappers," she told The Fader. "But Gucci kept asking and eventually I agreed. When he got out of jail, they flew me to Atlanta right away to do the '911 Emergency' video. That’s the day we met. He was in love with me on sight."
Ka'oir Cosmetics Launched In 2010
Keyshia launched her own cosmetics line, Ka'oir, in 2010 starting off with vibrant colored lipsticks, which quickly became the model's signature look. Since its inception, Ka'oir Cosmetics has inked endorsements with celebrities like Teyana Taylor, who created her own signature lipstick for the brand titled "Harlem Knight" back in 2013, Jersey Shore's Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, and rapper Trina.
She's a Fitness Enthusiast
When Gucci came home, the first thing many people notice was his weight loss and in the year since leaving prison, Gucci has maintained a healthy lifestyle, all thanks to his wife. Keyshia launched her fitness line Ka'oir Fitness in 2011 with a range that included waist trainers, detox tea and other fitness gear. Her fitness Instagram account is used to promote living a healthy lifestyle and often posts videos of her workout routine for her 190,000 followers to follow.
Keyshia Was the Main Girl in Timbaland's "Say Something" Video
Before meeting Gucci on the set of his "911 Emergency" video, Keyshia flexed her acting chops as she played Timbaland's leading lady in the video for the producer's 2009 hit "Say Something" featuring Drake. "This was my second video and absolutely one of my favorites," she wrote on her blog. "I’ve been training and taking acting classes, so it was great to be able to display a bit of my hard work as an actress on set as a leading lady. I also liked the fact it felt like a movie and not just a video."
She Fell in Love With Guwop When She "Bathed" Him
Speaking to Page Six during her press tour for the couple's wedding special, Ka'oir revealed that she realized she loved Gucci after joining the rapper on tour in 2010 and bathing him. "I went on tour with Gucci in 2010 -- that is when it really started to get serious. I fell in love with Gucci when I bathed him... I put him in a shower and just bathed him. I just did things to him and he looked at me and said, ‘Wow, no one has ever bathed me before,'” she said in the interview. “I am a traditional Jamaican lady, that is what you do. You take care of your man."
She later clarified her comments during an appearance on The Real and said that while she didn't literally mean "put him in a bath tub and wash his back," she says she has no problem doing so because that's the reason Gucci put a ring on it.
