Chris Paul Talks With JAY-Z About His Decision to Leave the Clippers
"I had the ball in my hands way too much. Like, I'm so tired of dribbling and having to do so much."
Besides the blockbuster trade that sent Kyrie Irving over to the Boston Celtics last August, Chris Paul's decision to depart from the Los Angeles Clippers was one of the biggest storylines this NBA off-season. After spending six seasons in Lob City, Paul opted to start anew with James Harden and the Houston Rockets. Prior to his decision, CP3 spoke to JAY-Z in regards to whether he should consider offers made to him by other teams, mainly Houston.
"[Houston] is probably number one right now," Paul tells JAY-Z in an advance clip of his ESPN three-part docu-series Chris Paul’s Chapter 3. "I said this for the longest I had the ball in my hands way too much. Like, I'm so tired of dribbling and having to do so much."
Hov replies by asking Paul if he's prepared to uproot his family after becoming so attached to the city of L.A. "That's what you really have to think about. Do you want to uproot your family? Kids in school, they love their friends. That whole move, you did that already, or do you keep your residence in L.A?" he said. "It's gonna be hard."
Ultimately, Paul was granted his wish and was traded to the Rockets. Tuesday (Oct. 17) and he'll suit up to face off against defending league champs, the Golden State Warriors, in the season opener.
The first episode for Paul's three-part series airs Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. EST on ESPN. Watch Paul's and JAY-Z's conversation below.
