EarthGang Dive Deep Into Their Emotions on 'Robots': Premiere
The AnonXmous-produced record finds the Atlanta tandem flirting with various melodic deliveries and stretching their creative boundaries. "I love the record. It helped me learn things about myself; diving deep and discovering what makes us tick," EarthGang's Johnny Venus explains to Billboard.
His cohort, Doctur Dot, echoes his sentiments. "The record means a lot to me because at the time it helped fuel my creative momentum," he says. "This record will always have a special place in my heart. The instrumental played so well with a concept I was working in my head before I even heard it. All this rap shit really is just selling emotions. This is the most exciting way we could sell feeling numb. Here we go again."
After releasing their EP Rags last month, EarthGang upped their level of artistry and are prepared to delve into every emotion possible for their forthcoming release, Robots. "I'm excited about the range of emotions we show," says Venus. "Lots of us, especially Black men, are raised not to be emotional or to only show strength and anger. Emotions are our super powers. We should embrace them. To me, that's living life fully and truly."
"The project is just the next step of an overall creative experiment we're trying. The fans will yield the results. If Rags was you closing your eyes to meditate, then Robots is that deep breath you take," says Doc.
With Robots set to drop Oct. 20, EarthGang will also be co-headlining their Never Had Sh!t Tour with fellow Dreamville signee J.I.D. Things will kick off Nov. 2 in Toronto, as Chaz French and Lute will serve as their openers. Listen to "Robots" below.
