"This song is intended to make people feel good -- and that’s not something to be neglected in this moment.”

Since bringing her Grammy Awards total to five with a double-win for best R&B album (Lalah Hathaway Live) and best traditional R&B performance (for “Angel”) at the 59th annual ceremony in February, Lalah Hathaway has been keeping it moving. As her latest single, “I Can’t Wait,” climbs Billboard’s R&B Songs chart -- No. 27 for the week of Sept. 16 -- the singer/songwriter has now released the track’s video.

In keeping with the single’s smooth, easygoing vibe, the video centers around an underground dance party with guest cameos from model Shaun Ross and actor/comedian Affion Crockett. The visual was directed by Jay Ahn.

“I really want to express, since there is so much dark shit happening right now, that music is truly this train that you can hop on to transport yourself to having a good time,” Hathaway tells Billboard. “This song is intended to make people feel good -- and that’s not something to be neglected in this moment.”

“I Can’t Wait” is the first single from Hathaway’s forthcoming album, Honestly, due this fall. The project also signals the artist’s first release on her Hathaway Entertainment imprint via distribution partner Caroline.

Managed by Russell Redeaux of Stampede Management, Hathaway fulfilled a dream this year when she collaborated with Pharrell Williams on the track “Surrender” from the Hidden Figures soundtrack. The singer is currently on the road with Mary J. Blige’s national Strength of a Woman tour. Hathaway's final performance on the tour concludes Saturday at Oakland's Paramount Theater.
