It’s scientifically proven that music has the ability to pull a listener out from one mood and catapult them into another. Such is the case for talk show titan Wendy Williams, who depends on a specially curated playlist to get her mind right and energy ready for an early workday.

“Me and my husband, we listen to a lot of the same music every day, and it’s always old school hip-hop,” she says after a taping of The Wendy Williams Show.

The sounds of the East Coast prove to have a strong hold on Williams, as she name-drops Mobb Deep, JAY-Z, Heavy D, Big Daddy Kane and M.O.P. -- the latter two of whom are on the bill for her July 23 Mixtape Beach Party -- as some of her favorites.

Here, she provides a sample size of the tunes essential for her rise and grind.
