Trae Tha Truth Recruits All-Star Lineup for 'I'm On 3.0': Premiere
In 2011, Trae Tha Truth assembled a formidable rap crew with his star-studded single "I'm On" featuring Wiz Khalifa, Lupe Fiasco, Big Boi, Wale, and MDMA. After upping the ante with the remix "I'm On 2.0" in 2012 (which co-starred Big K.R.I.T., Mark Morrison, Jadakiss, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, B.o.B, Tyga, Gudda Gudda and Bun B), Trae revamps his legendary series with a brand new line-up for "I'm On 3.0."
For his latest offering, the Houston veteran nabs his favorite hip hop heavyweights to spit on Mark Morrison's "Return of the Mack" sample. Fabolous, G-Eazy, Snoop Dogg, T.I., Rick Ross, Dave East, Tee Grizzley, Royce Da 5'9'', Chamillionaire, Curren$y, Styles P, D.R.A.M., and E-40 all take a swing at the soulful track.
"Everyone is familiar with my 'I'm On' series at this point," Trae tells Billboard. "Each version is full of all-stars. We're the A-Team -- the Avengers of hip-hop."
Trae even recruits Gary Clark Jr. to sprinkle his rock style on to the hip hop infused track. "Gary Clark Jr. brings a lot more to the table," says Trae. "Him on a track like this has never been done. We've got a lot of history." Most recently, Trae notes, their "history" continued at SXSW when Clark brought the rapper out at a Rolling Stone party.
"I'm On 3.0" will live on his new album Tha Truth, Pt. 3, which drops July 21. According to the "Screwed Up" rapper, this project will be one of his best to date.
"It's gonna be one of my best albums to date, full of Instant classics and timeless music. This album reveals more of my life. I get more personal on it," Trae reveals. For example, on the first song of the album, I'm talking to my brother who was murdered. As for the rest, you'll have to experience it for yourself when it comes out July 21st."
