A Timeline of Nicki Minaj & Remy Ma's Rocky Relationship

The tumultuous relationship between Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma continues, but it didn't happen overnight -- the two New York rappers have been frenemies for a decade.

In 2007, a budding Nicki Minaj released her "Dirty Money" freestyle, targeting a fellow female rapper as she spit: "Tell that b---h with the crown to run it like Chris Brown / She won three rounds, I'mma need a hundred thou' / Oh, y'all ain't know? / Bet y'all b---hes know now."

Minaj's lyrics of choice landed her in hot water as Remy Ma reportedly pressed her at a mixtape release party. The two then went their separate ways as Minaj's career skyrocketed, while Remy faced incarceration from a 2007 shooting where she was convicted of intentional assault that landed her six years behind bars.

After years of harsh subliminals, hugs, and words of adoration, their rocky relationship came to a head this past Saturday (Feb. 26), when Remy unleashed her searing diss record "shETHER" aimed at Minaj. See how their relationship has evolved after Remy was released from prison in 2014.

August 2014

Fresh from her six-year prison sentence, Remy Ma sat down with Hot 97 and praised Nicki Minaj during the interview. "What I can say is that she's a wonderful woman. She's on the same page with me. Like, there's no need to tear somebody down. I can say what I said. I let her know that I'm super proud of her," she revealed.

December 2014

Months removed from her prison release, Remy was still polishing her skill set. While she continued to drop freestyle after freestyle, she elected to give Minaj's platinum single "Only" a test-drive. Though she hopped on the instrumental, no shots were fired at Minaj.

March 2015

Remy Ma tackled another Nicki Minaj instrumental with "Truffle Butter," a bolder attempt in contrast to her freestyle on Minaj's "Only." "People keep saying, 'Rem you need to drop a record' / I'm like in a minute let me body b---hes records / Yeah, for the millions I will kill these pop hoes / Ain't no one in these streets like me and potholes," she fired on the track.

June 2016

The "All the Way Up" star saluted the Queens native for snagging another award at the BET Awards.

October 2016

In an interview with Hot 97's Ebro in the Morning, Minaj hinted at a possible collaboration between her and Remy. "When I was working on The Pinkprint, I wanted to do a song with Remy and Foxy [Brown], and I still have the song to this day," she told Peter Rosenberg. "It was on a Diplo beat, but it was super-hood and hard." She added. She then reassured that "it's only a matter of time before she [Remy] and I do something."

Remy Ma and Papoose visited Hot 97's Funkmaster Flex for his freestyle series. While rhyming over Nas' "New York State of Mind," Remy fired shots perceived to be aimed at Nicki Minaj: "See your whole style, bitten / Pieces ain't hitting / When I said it was written, I was talking bout y'all b---hes / Y'all trying to play chess, but why would I play you / When I could knock the whole f--king board off the table." She added, "All this talk about me and your son / I'm hot and your whole world revolve around me, b---h I am the sun."

December 25, 2016

New York rapper Phresher released the video for his remix to "Wait a Minute" featuring 50 Cent and Remy Ma. The video caught significant attention after Remy delivered a scorching verse that many Twitter users believed was directed at Nicki Minaj. 'Will I smoke this b---h? Yes / Probably fail my piss test / Get rid of those fake breasts / And put a vest on this b---h chest," she spit on the controversial record, before referencing ghostwriters. "That ghostwriter bout to call her / That lifeline getting shorter."

February 15, 2017

During an interview with Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club, Remy Ma refuted claims of her aiming at Nicki Minaj on the remix for Phresher's "Wait a Minute." "Whenever I've had a problem with any female in this entire game, I will say your name... I'm going to say your government. I'm going to look it up. I'm going to say your mother's name, your father's name, your kid's name," she said. "I want you to know that I'm talking about you."

Jason Derulo released his new single "Swalla" featuring Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign. For Minaj, she used the Caribbean-infused record as an opportunity to issue a warning shot that the Internet believed to be towards Remy Ma. "I gave these b---hes two years, now your time's up / Bless her heart, she throwing shots but every line sucks," spit Minaj.

February 25, 2017

For the second time in a week, Minaj unleashed a barrage of shots at Remy Ma on Gucci Mane's "Make Love": "She ain't eatin' but I swear she got some bum a-- taste / Text her man like, "Dawg, how that bum a-- taste?" / Pay your rent! And stay in your bum a-- place / Oooohhh, oh you the qu-e-e-the queen of this here? / One platinum plaque, album flopped, b---h, where?," she rapped. She punctuated the diss with: "You see, silly rabbit, to be the queen of rap / You gotta sell records, you gotta get plaques."

February 26, 2017

Twenty-four hours later, Remy Ma took aim at Nicki Minaj when she launched her blistering diss record "shETHER." Unearthing Nas' "Ether" instrumental for her attack, Remy spewed venom from every direction. On "shETHER", she referenced Minaj's past relationship with Meek Mill, her allegedly using a ghostwriter, and also name-checked Trey Songz, Hot 97's Ebro Darden as well as Minaj's brother Jelani on the fiery seven-minute track.

Unimpressed by the record, Minaj posted a now-deleted screenshot on Instagram of an article referencing Fat Joe and Remy Ma's Plato O Plomo album opening week sales. She also posted audio of Beyonce referencing her as a "rap queen." As for Remy, she didn't waste any time after the released her diss record. Hours later, she performed the track while opening up for The LOX in Reading, PA.
