During his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday night, LL Cool J recalled hanging out with Paul Simon in their native Queens during his "first album famous" days.

"We were doing some kind of interview," explained LL, referencing the 1987 New York Times profile where he and the singer/songwriter attended a local talent contest at the Black Spectrum Theater Company in St. Albans. "Paul came by, we did the interview. We were talking and went to the high school, junior high school. I remember saying to myself, 'I'm not sure if the kids are going to know who Paul is.' Now, mind you, nobody knew who I was."

LL said he introduced Simon during their joint appearance to "pandemonium," adding, "I was blown away that all these little black kids knew Paul Simon." While the Lip Sync Battle host and NCIS: Los Angeles star says they haven't spoken in a while, he praised Simon as "a real class act."
