Soulja Boy Says Chris Brown Beef 'Stems From Rihanna'
After Soulja Boy and Chris Brown sparred on Instagram over the "Party" singer's ex-girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, the "Turn My Swag On" rapper revealed in a new interview with Hollywood Unlock that Tran isn't the real cause behind their public rift.
“What he really mad about is that I was with Rihanna, you know what I’m saying?" Soulja Boy said. Accompanied by his trainer and promoter for his highly anticipated bout with Brown, boxer Floyd Mayweather, Soulja Boy opened up about an alleged relationship with Rihanna following her 2009 assault at the hands of then-boyfriend Brown.
“And no one would have never knew that, n---a, if he hadn’t come and started tripping about Karrueche. I was with Rihanna, son. Rihanna, n---a. Yeah, Google the s--t, YouTube the s--t," says Soulja. (To note, a quick scroll through Google and YouTube barely yields results about Soulja Boy allegedly dating Rihanna.)
According to the rapper, Rihanna befriended him immediately after her assault by Brown. In 2009, Brown was charged with two felonies and given probation in the wake of his attack on Rihanna on the night before that year's Grammy Awards.
Soulja Boy claims that at the time, Rihanna asked his manager if she could come to one of the MC's shows. "I'm in L.A., I'm on tour with Lil Wayne at this time, Rihanna called my manager," he said. "'I want to come to Soulja Boy concert.' I'm a young n---a from the hood from Atlanta, I never had nothing in my whole life, that's Rihanna n---a. She the biggest R&B artist and she just got humiliated. 'You can come to the show.'" He said the two even smoked and watched Pineapple Express at one point, and that Rihanna told him about her altercation with Brown.
Soulja Boy later said singer Teyana Taylor -- who he claimed to be dating at the time -- divulged the news about his newfound friendship with Rihanna to Brown. This allegedly pushed Brown to get on the phone with Soulja Boy. “That’s what the beef really stems from. It stems from Rihanna,” Soulja continued. “Same s--t he doing now with Karrueche, but way back then he wasn’t snorting so much coke."
While Soulja Boy has already started his training with Mayweather, rapper 50 Cent claims he enlisted Mike Tyson to serve as Brown's trainer for a boxing match reportedly taking place in March. In a recent Instagram video, 50 called Tyson and recruited him to join them as an ally in efforts to defeat Soulja Boy and company. "Soulja Boy gonna get f---ed up," joked Tyson during his phone conversation with 50 in the clip.
Billboard has reached out to Soulja Boy, Chris Brown and Rihanna's reps for comment.
