Early-'00s hip hop fans were in for a treat earlier this year when Murder Inc.'s own Ja Rule and Ashanti kicked off their reunion tour, bringing the days of "Mesmerize" and "Always On Time" to venues across the nation. Carrying on their reunion, Ja and Ashanti have linked up once again for "Helpless" off The Hamilton Mixtape, the pair's first collaboration in almost a decade.

The soul-injected ballad opens with Ashanti taking on the role of Eliza from the hit Broadway production, as she sings about falling head-over-heels for the musical's titular protagonist. "One week later, I'm writing a letter nightly, now my life gets better every letter that you write me," the songtress coos. "Laughin' at this girl, cuz she wants to form a harem... No, I ain't sharing."

Ja Rule later chimes in as Hamilton, rhyming that despite his lack of money, "acre of land, a troop to command, a dollop of fame," his love for her is undeniable.

In an interview with Conan earlier this month, Lin-Manuel Miranda revealed that he thought of Ja Rule and Ashanti when writing the song, and predicted that the collaborative track will give listeners "the feels."
