Charlotte Rapper Duru Tha King Releases Inspirational Track 'Yellow': Premiere

Anthony Thompson

In 2014, Charlotte MC Duru Tha King emerged onto the rap scene with "#NewCharlotte," the hometown ode featuring YB, Bankroll Bird and Deniro Farrar that racked up 14 million plays on SoundCloud. In the time since, he's released other buzzy tracks like the sexy number "Mind F--k" and the menacing Ferrar collaboration "Corruputed." Now, Duru returns with the lighter note, an inspirational anthem titled "Yellow."

On the Neon Logik-produced cut, Duru warns to not trust "b-tches" or "n---as" because people remain the same. "B-tches only ride when you straight and I done see the real turn to fake," he offers.

"To me this song inspires hope and positivity," Duru tells Billboard. "Where I'm from, it's easy to get lost in negative circumstances and forget the simple pleasures that make us all human. 'Yellow' reminds me that we all deserve everything we've ever dreamed of, regardless of what you look like, where you come from, what you believe in."

He continues, "After everything life has thrown at me, I'm still smiling, I still got my head up, and I'm still making music. I hope this song inspires people as much as it did me."
