Lil Wayne Says He Doesn't Know Who Lil Yachty, Kodak Black or Donald Trump Are
Lil Wayne is in his own world, for sure. If not his own galaxy.
The self-proclaimed "Martian" seems far more interested in his music than anything else, including other people's music, politics and current affairs.
In a new interview with the New York Times, Wayne was asked about some of rap's most notable up-and-comers, Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage and Kodak Black and whether they, or any other new acts are motivating him in his own music. His was unintentionally completely dismissive.
"I swear to God I didn't know you were saying people's names just now, so that should probably answer that question," he said. "I just do my own thing."
Wayne is currently promoting his new collection of prison journals, Gone 'Til November, while he works through legal tie ups with Cash Money Records to release his long anticipated 11th solo album, Tha Carter V. When asked about the reality TV he watched while locked up and whether he has any words for Celebrity Apprentice host and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, Wayne laughed it off with blissful ignorance.
"Who's that?" he replied, making it unclear whether or not he actually knows the name at all (though it's hard to imagine he doesn't).
Similarly, Wayne seems pretty checked out from current social issues and any activism around them. Simply, it sounds like there's too much going on inside his head for him to worry about much else.
"I believe there's a bunch of different types of artists and musicians," he said. "To even notice what's going out there -- I'm trying to make these words stop popping up in my head, I'm trying to make them rhyme. I've got all kind of color lives mattering up in here -- green, all kinds of stuff mattering. I'm trying to make sense of what's on in this world up in here [points to head]."
