Gun Charges Dropped After Desiigner's Arrest: Report
A felony weapon charge against Desiigner has been dropped by a New York City district attorney, TMZ reports. No weapons were found in the vehicle that the “Panda” rapper (born Sidney Royel Shelby III) was a passenger in when he was involved in an alleged road rage incident Thursday night (Sept. 8).
The report indicates the D.A. also dropped a charge for felony possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell.
Desiigner had been arrested for gun and drug charges, a spokesperson for the NYPD previously confirmed to Billboard: "It looks to be a road rage incident involving a Cadillac Escalade around 42nd Street and 8th Avenue in which words were exchanged and a firearm was brandished at the victim's vehicle.”
Desiigner was with four other people in an SUV. An unidentified victim called 911 to report that a gun was pointed. When the vehicle was stopped, controlled substances -- which appeared to be prescription pills -- were found.
While everyone in the SUV was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of drugs with intent to sell, only Desiigner was hit with the now-dropped charge of felony criminal possession of a loaded weapon.
He was arraigned in a New York City court Saturday morning (Sept. 10), according to TMZ, and still faces possession of a controlled substance and menacing charges.
