Frank Ocean's Blonde made waves when it was released last month as an Apple Music exclusive. Now it's available for streaming on Spotify.

With 'Blonde,' Frank Ocean's Real Revolution Was in His Business Moves

Following its release, Blonde topped the Billboard 200 chart with the year's third largest debut. With contributions on the set from Andre 3000, Beyonce, James Blake and many more, the critically acclaimed album also debuted 12 tracks on the Hot R&B Songs chart and five songs on the Billboard Hot 100.

Ocean's Blonde release was the latest in the new trend of artist exclusives to a single streaming service. While industry leader Spotify has stayed out of the fray, Apple Music and Tidal have become heavily competitive in staking their claim. Interestingly, Blonde is still not available on Tidal.

But it wasn't just the fanfare for the follow up to Ocean's 2012 debut Channel Orange that made a massive impact on the music business. With its release, Ocean seemingly pulled a bait-and-switch on his former record label Def Jam by dropping the visual album Endless -- also as an Apple exclusive -- days before, fulfilling his contractual obligations, and then released Blonde independently. As a result, Universal Music Group, Def Jam's parent company, issued a decree banning the its artists from streaming exclusives.
