T.I. Tackles Police Brutality On 'Warzone'
"Can't you see we living in a warzone?," asks Atlanta rapper T.I. on his new politically charged track "Warzone."
As Tip preps his upcoming Us or Else mixtape, the outspoken rapper throws in references to Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown and Eric Garner by spitting, "Hands up! Can't breathe!" on top of the piano-driven soul beat. And he targets police brutality on the hook, rhyming, "Like every weekend, it's a man down/ Ain't got no pity for the innocent so Im'ma represent and dedicate it."
In a July interview with Hot 97, Tip said that the Us or Else project, the prequel to his tenth album Dime Trap, would be in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. “Before you hear The Dime Trap, I will be releasing a project completely surrounded or inspired by the events and state of the nation right now today and it’s called Us or Else," he said. “That’s equality for us, or else. Unity for us, or else. Stop killing us, or else."
He continued, “It’s basically my take on things that are going on, how we got here, why we’re here, speaking to the oppressor and just trying to put something out there, a platform for people to speak so we can address this and move past it. I can’t really go into the studio and write records about throwing money in the club. It just don’t feel responsible.”
