Will Smith Surprised the 'Late Show' Audience with a 'Summertime' Performance: Watch

What happens when those late night shows go to commercial and the guest and host pretend to make small talk? Usually it's just time filler. But on Wednesday night, Will Smith turned that dead air into a chance to revisit one of his most iconic hits. Chatting it up off mic with The Late Show host Stephen Colbert, Smith started to bob his head as the house band, Jon Baptiste and Stay Human, played the instrumental to Smith's 1991 hit with DJ Jazzy Jeff, "Summertime."

Ostensibly around to promote Suicide Squad, Smith couldn't help himself, hopping out of his seat and running across the stage to grab a mic and drop a few verses from the hot weather staple to the crowd's delight.

It was the second time this week that Smith performed an impromptu throwback jam at a Squad event, coming on the heels of him busting out some of his 1998 hit "Miami" during an event in, yes, Miami.
