Kanye West/'SpongeBob Squarepants' Mashup Goes Viral, But It's Been Done Before

A viral clip of a young producer mashing up the closing credits to SpongeBob Squarepants with Kanye West's "I Love Kanye" has been making the rounds on Facebook this week. The 50-second video shows a guy who goes by the name Asadi using an MPC to meld the TV show's lazy surf guitar riff with Kanye's tongue-in-cheek rant about missing "the old Kanye."

It's a great clip and a hilarious idea, but Asadi -- whose YouTube video is enjoying viral success and blogosphere coverage for the inventive combo -- isn't actually the first person to do it.

Back in March, a SoundCloud user named Dr. Philluminati from Perth, Australia, combined the SpongeBob closing credits with "I Love Kanye," resulting in a "T.L.O.S." mashup that's very similar to the one currently going viral (the versions diverge slightly about halfway through). The March 2016 Kanye/SpongeBob mashup, however, isn't getting any of the viral attention.

Moral of the story? If you can think of a great idea, chances are it's already been done before somewhere online. Or on The Simpsons.
