Iconic New York DJ Big Kap has reportedly passed away. The news was first shared by Funkmaster Flex on his Instagram.

Gone But Not Forgotten: In Memoriam 2016

"Rest in peace.... Big Kap...," Flex wrote under a photo of Kap and another of the two DJs together. The duo helmed the legendary 1999 The Tunnel album, which featured a slew of big acts including Jay Z, Lil' Kim, Memphis Bleek, Mary J. Blige and the late Tupac and Notorious B.I.G.

The hip-hop community also took to timelines to share their memories of Kap and offer their condolences.

"Woke up to terrible news today ... We lost Big Kap," wrote Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg. "Not only a great DJ, key part of the flip squad and big dog pit bulls , and incredible talker with a unique and awesome voice but more than anything -- great guy ...always good for a warm smile and a sincere conversation... Was always very fond of this guy ever since I met him .. RIP brother... Sending love and positive vibes to his family, @funkflex , @ciphasoundsand all the pit bulls and flip squad."
