First Take: The Wale Sessions

Wale hops back in the booth for a new theme song called "Every Word Great" that will open ESPN2's popular morning debate show First Take featuring debaters Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith with host Molly Qerim. The D.C. rapper also holds bragging rights to FT's current theme song of the same name which premiered in 2013, featuring MMG labelmate Stalley.

"Being asked to write the new theme song to First Take is a big deal to me being such a big sports fan & former college athlete," he tells Billboard. "I was honored when they asked me to write the current one and jumped at the opportunity when they asked if I'd write the new one."

The longtime ESPN fan adds, "I grew up on ESPN and now I'm writing their theme songs? Man, that's what this whole EveryBlueMoon movement is about. Plus, Skip, Molly and Stephen are family."

The First Take family is no stranger to hip-hop, as rappers like Wale himself and Lil Wayne have appeared on the show multiple times to flex their sports savvy.
