R&B Reigns as iHeartRadio's Top-Ranking Genre in 2015
iHeartRadio recently pulled some fun stats from its 75 million users to see what -- and who -- stuck across stations in 2015.
R&B was the top-ranking genre overall, thanks to Drake and his GIF-filled video for "Hotline Bling," followed by The Weeknd and Wiz Khalifa's Furious 7 soundtrack tearjerker "See You Again" featuring Charlie Puth. Pop, Rap, Country and Latin rounded out the top 5, respectively.
Other honorable mentions include Ed Sheeran, who bagged the honor for most “thumbed” (or most "liked") song of the year with “Thinking Out Loud,” beating out the Taylor Swift tracks “Shake It Off” and “Blank Space,” as well as Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass.” Break down the stats state-by-state, though, and Drizzy came out on top across 20 states in the U.S. thanks to “Hotline Bling,” despite its mid-2015 premiere.
The Swifties still came out in full force, allowing Taylor to become the leading artist nationwide for station creates, where iHeartRadio users piece together commercial-free custom stations with their favorite tracks, albums and artists. She is followed by The Weeknd, Sam Smith, Maroon 5 and Nicki Minaj.
