BJ the Chicago Kid is keeping things classic on his latest release, a cover of Raphael Saadiq's "Charlie Ray."

Together with Saadiq and soul icon Lee Fields, BJ is participating in E&J Brandy's Generations of Soul campaign -- this release is the first of six to celebrate soul music's vital legacy, as well as the brandy's 40th anniversary. The songs will be available on vinyl (in keeping with the project's theme of uniting past and present) later this year.

"'Charlie Ray' is one of my all time favorite songs," BJ tells Billboard of the cover. "With Raphael having such an extensive catalog, I had to pick a song that I have a personal connection with. While staying true to Raphael's intention, I also had to inject my own touch to it. I hope fans dig both versions."
