Young Thug's 'Tha Carter 6': What We Know Based on His Instagram

Cam Kirk

Young Thug

When Young Thug announced that his debut album would be named after Lil Wayne's iconic Tha Carter series, he was met with confusion and anger from fans and detractors alike. The eccentric rapper isn't just trying to one-up his mentor's (currently unreleased) upcoming album; he's making a statement that he can hang with the upper echelon of veteran rappers.

The biggest question is: What will this album sound like? Luckily, besides his new song "Check," Thug has been leaving bread crumbs in the form of 15-second Instagram posts for the past nine months. He often performs the songs to his followers, teasing a range of tracks that touch on the brilliance of the unorthodox rapper. From his Auto-Tune-assisted singing to his wildly distinct raps, if the posts below are any proof; Tha Carter 6 sounds like it will be the project that changes the perception of Young Thug.

Below are Instagram snippets of five songs that may appear on Young Thug's Tha Carter 6:

1. "We Free" (ft. Jacquees)

Young Thug and Jacquees both represent Rich Gang, so it's a no-brainer that they would team up on this snippet (a new song titled "Beat It Up" also leaked from the duo a few days ago). We don't hear the singer on this song. (Thug's captions usually say the name of the song and featured artist.) From the sounds of the two snippets, Thug is right at home on the beat. He's posted the snippets twice, which could mean that we could be hearing a full version soon.

2. "Being Drunk/ Call Some Friends & Get Drunk" (feat. Travi$ Scott)

Travi$ Scott and Young Thug were co-headliners on the recent Rodeo tour that raged through the country this year. This collaboration sounds like it continues the progressive rap sound of their previous works, with Travi$ crooning about getting drunk on the chorus. This one sounds ready to be a single, no?

3. Untitled Song

Thugger dropped this snippet three months ago, and it features him rapping over a spastic beat. The "okay!" ad-libs are what stands out in the short preview, which as of right now doesn't have a title.

4. "We Be Dipset"

This song is a tribute to The Diplomats, who share a love of eccentric styles with Young Thug. Thug lets us hear the chorus to this song in the snippet, on which he says he's in the "new bird gang." Could a Cam'ron feature be on the way? We can only hope.

5. "Love Me"

This snippet of "Love Me" has Young Thug playing with his flow on a haunting instrumental. The preview is more proof that the album won't stray from the seemingly endless amount of deliveries that Thug has at his disposal.
