Kendrick Lamar performs at the iTunes Festival during the SXSW Music Festival on March 12, 2014, in Austin, Texas.

"What inspired me as a kid was really illustrating my thoughts on that sheet of paper," says Kendrick Lamar in a new Reebok ad set in the Compton rapper's hometown.

As we await new music from Lamar, the black-and-white clip shows him rapping a previously unheard verse a cappella and brings him to his alma matter Centennial High, where several musical students are featured as well.

"It was really about getting to that success level where you can back to your neighborhood and people feel like, you know, they look up to you," he says later. As the L.A. Times reports, Lamar will have a custom-designed Rebook shoe line out before too long.
