Carrie Underwood took the stage during Sunday night's telecast (Dec. 15) of the 2019 Kennedy Center Honors to pay tribute to Linda Ronstadt with a medley of some the icon's most prolific hits.

Donning a sparkling silver dress, Underwood opened her performance with a lush rendition of Ronstadt's signature song, "Blue Bayou," before kicking things up a notch with 1975's "When Will I Be Loved." "I've been cheated, been mistreated/ When will I be loved?/ I've been put down, I've been pushed 'round/ When will I be loved?/ When I find a new man that I want for mine/ Always breaks my heart in two/ It happens every time," the American Idol champ sang over the track's lively guitar line and crashing drums, all while Ronstadt sat smiling in the audience.

Following the performance, Trisha Yearwood, Aaron Neville, Kevin Kline, all-female mariachi group Flor de Toloache and Emmylou Harris each honored the ten-time Grammy winner in both song and speech, with Harris getting particularly emotional as she remarked on her longtime pal's "fierce, unfaltering friendship" over their years in the music industry.
