Stoney LaRue will release his upcoming album Onward next month, and ahead of the project’s reveal, Billboard has the exclusive premiere of his next single “Message In a Bottle” today (Oct. 15).

A classic country song complete with driving pedal steel, delicate piano features and LaRue’s powerful belt, on “Message In a Bottle” the Texas native sings of the end of a relationship due to a little too much drinking on the man’s part. When he awakes, he sees a message in a bottle that details his woman has left him.

“‘Message In A Bottle” was, in its infancy, supposed to be my take on a classic country song about self-realization,” he tells Billboard. “I liked the twist that the song brought from the picture it evokes of a bottle found on some shoreline to it being right in front of your face the whole time... like on a table, by the door.”

“Message In a Bottle” is featured on the Texas native’s forthcoming album Onward, out Nov. 1. The project includes collaborations with Tanya Tucker and the McCrary Sisters as well as a cover of Merle Haggard’s “Let’s Chase Each Other Around the Room.”

“This record is wading through all the mud and storms to hopefully come out on the other side with a wisdom that you didn’t have before,” LaRue, who spends close to 200 dates a year on the road, says. “It’s a brighter way to look at things.”
