Willie Nelson’s new album Ride Me Back Home is available on Friday (June 21), but ahead of its release the country legend stopped by The Tonight Show on Tuesday night (June 18) to talk about his two favorite things: weed and the road. Nelson chatted with Fallon about how much he loves living on his ultra-luxe coach (“I enjoy living on the bus”) and how smoking weed saved his life.

“I used to smoke two to three packs of cigarettes a day and drank whatever there was there to drink,” Nelson said. “I had pneumonia four, five times, my lung collapsed, I almost died. So I said, ‘Wait a minute. I ain’t getting that high off of Chesterfields.’ So I threw out the cigarettes, rolled up 20 joins, stuck it in there and I haven’t smoked a cigarette since.”

Nelson has his own brand of marijuana, Willie's Reserve, where he said he serves as "CTO" -- chief testing officer, of course.

“I was lucky enough to be gifted this and it changed my life. Thank you very much for that gift. I was floating for weeks,” Fallon told his guest about his the effect Willie's Reserve had on him.

Nelson then performed the poignant ballad “My Favorite Picture of You,” featured on his forthcoming album. The project has the singer performing originals as well as surprise covers, including Billy Joel’s “Just the Way You Are.”
