Lil Nas X Responds to Video Of Autistic Boy Singing 'Old Town Road': 'What a King'
It's been a wild couple months for Lil Nas X. The rapper has gone from unknown to a nine-week reign atop the Billboard Hot 100 with the Billy Ray Cyrus remix of his breakthrough hit "Old Town Road," the longest chart run of the year so far.
And now he's got another reason to say "aw, shucks." The MC wrote "what a king" in response to a mother's touching story about her non-verbal autistic son, who she says shocked her when he started humming "Road."
"We had an #oldtownroad miracle at my house. My son Daniel has #autism and doesn't talk," wrote Sheletta Brundidge earlier this week. "We caught him humming the @LilNasX and @billyraycyrus tune the other day. Then Bless God, my baby started singing the song on his own. His therapists have started to use it in his sessions!"

The sweet video has elicited a ton of emotional responses, with Brundidge telling one commenter who asked about Daniel's seemingly more direct gaze, "Yes ma'am it is. We noticed about a few months ago that he began looking directly at the camera when we would take pictures. So it's been bubbling up inside of him!!!! @LilNasX and @billyraycyrus just helped bring it out."

Every time I lock eyes with my baby, we start singing #oldtownroad together. Cause of his #autism, he ain't strung together four words since he was born. But when we sing #OldTownRoad, he got all @LilNasX parts DOWN and I'm rocking @billyraycyrus! Can't nobody tell us nothing... pic.twitter.com/j7w6qrLW63— Sheletta Brundidge (@TwoHauteMamas1) June 5, 2019
For the record, Brundidge put it out there that they're available for playdates if Lil Nas has the time.
We are available for a play date with @LilNasX! Kids are out of school and are available any time except noon and 2. That's nap time and anybody with kids knows that's sacred. But at 2:01 we are ready for karaoke! #welisted pic.twitter.com/kQN30wv45T— Sheletta Brundidge (@TwoHauteMamas1) June 6, 2019
You know what he's doing while singing #oldtownroad in that video? Opening and closing the buttons on my "duster". Because of Daniel's #autism, he can do that for hours without saying a word. So when he started singing @LilNasX's part of the hit song, I was blown away! pic.twitter.com/63lukgdEPZ— Sheletta Brundidge (@TwoHauteMamas1) June 5, 2019
