Florida Georgia Line Talk Inclusion in Country Music at 2019 BBMAs: 'There's Room For Everybody'
Florida Georgia Line spoke with Billboard’s Desire Thompson on the red carpet at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards on Wednesday (May 1), where they discussed their four nominations and inclusion in country music.
Ahead of their top country song win for “Meant to Be” with Bebe Rexha, the duo said they were honored to be attending the awards show.
“It’s always a huge honor to be a part of this night and to be nominated and to be invited to be here,” FGL’s Tyler Hubbard tells Billboard. “We’re really, really excited. It’s sort of a little tip of the hat, if you will, from the all-genre awards show for us. So we’re excited to be here and represent country music.”
FGL are well known for their genre-crossing collaborations having previously worked with Rexha, the Backstreet Boys and Jason Derulo, among others. As they explain, it’s simply about good music and not classifying the genre each song fits in.
“At the end of the day, especially for us, it’s all about the song,” Hubbard adds. “We're not fans of a genre. We’re just fans of good music. I think there’s room for everybody. Push yourself, make the best music you can possibly make. There’s going to be somebody listening for sure and I think that’s what we try to focus on."
