Caroline Jones will be spending much of the year on the road opening for Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown Band, and the singer-songwriter is releasing new music ahead of the trek. Her lighthearted new single, “Chasin’ Me,” is exclusively premiering on Billboard today (March 21).
Penned by Jones, “Chasin’ Me” tells the tale of a woman who never gave love a chance until recently. While she tried her best to heed her mother’s advice to guard her heart, one man is making her walls come down. The infectious pop-country tune showcases Jones’ ethereal vocals and descriptive storytelling as the song plays out as a mini Hallmark movie.
A fan of older romantic comedies herself, Jones says the song was inspired in part by the playful dynamics between men and women she’s seen in films. “I wrote ‘Chasin’ Me’ about the kind of man and love I want,” Jones tells Billboard. “As a woman, there is an excitement to being desired and pursued. I hope the song reminds women that they are worthy of being chased. I love romantic comedies from the ‘40s and ‘50s, especially Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn films. I love the playful dynamics between men and women portrayed in those films. I love the way those films portray the building of trust in relationships. So, in that way, ‘Chasin’ Me’ is a song about old fashioned romantic values.”
