Chris Stapleton On 'Broken Halos' Winning at CMA Awards: 'I'm So Glad It Resonated With People'

Chris Stapleton caught up with Billboard’s Taylor Weatherby backstage at the 2018 CMA Awards on Wednesday (Nov. 14), chatting about winning Male Vocalist, Song, and Single of the Year, and why he's so happy that his winning song resonated with fans.

When asked how it felt to win, Stapleton, who took home both the Single and Song of the Year awards for his track “Broken Halos,” tells Billboard, “As a songwriter, those are some pretty big categories, but beyond that there were so many powerful songs that on paper, in my view, probably were more deserving.”

“But I'm so glad it resonated with people,” he continues. “if it's helped people heal in certain times, I think that's what that song is for. When I hear people sing it every night  when we play shows, you know you're doing some good things. That's what music is for, supposed to be about healing people a little bit.”
